Wendy's Shows For Children (of all ages!)
1) Grumpy Gretel Discovers Magic
and
2) The Underwater Adventures of Sam Clam and Diver
Dan
* Both shows are 45-minute presentations featuring music and theatre.
* Both shows appeal to all ages - even adults - and are specially
directed toward 3-11 year olds.
* Both shows feature a number of scenes in which audience members
actively participate in the fun.
* Both shows are highly portable productions that require minimal
effort to stage. The story soundtracks, including dialogue and songs,
are pre-recorded, limiting needs to a performance space and a sound
system.
* Both shows were written by Wendy DeMos and Jim Bronskill.
A) Join Grumpy Gretel, Betsy Beagle, Gregory Gargoyle and a cast
of other delightful characters for a rollickin' good time in Silly
City - a land where dreams really can come true.
Grumpy Gretel Discovers Magic won "Best Children's Theatre"
at the 1997 Manotick Fringe Festival "Grumpy Gretel is a sweet
story, filled with magic, audience participation and infectiously
happy music.
A happy show that had children and parents on their feet joining
the performers on their way to Silly City."
- Eve Edmonds, Ottawa SUN
B) The Underwater Adventures of Sam Clam and Diver
Dan is a story about friendly ocean creatures. There's an
important message. It's fun. And if you like disco ....
Join Diver Dan, Larry Lobster, Shelley Shark, Mieke Mermaid, Sam
Clam and a host of other sea creatures as they tackle a sticky,
tricky, messy situation.
This story, created for the Canadian Museum of Nature, raises simple
questions about our environmental responsibilities to underwater
creatures while the music encourages movement and creative interpretation.
How would YOU portray a whale, octopus, starfish? Or a turtle?

"Diver Dan comes to the rescue when his undersea world
of talking clams and dancing lobsters is upset by a misguided
simpleton named Peter Polluter.
This imaginative story written by Ottawa singer-songwriter
Wendy DeMos and journalist Jim Bronskill has a strong environmental
message that's brought to life with images of icky, sticky
garbage and injured sea creatures. But it's also a lot of
fun, thanks to DeMos's animated demeanour as narrator -- she
has a whale of a time with each creature's voice.
While this is mainly a spoken-word disc, there's also some
lively original music, including the singalong theme song
12 Octopuses and a perky disco backdrop".
Lynn Saxberg, The Ottawa Citizen.
